Smallest Ruger 9mm - Roger's American Compact adds another option in polymer framed pistols for today's shooter. In the near future, James will review Roger's contract without finger protection. It will be on TFBTV. The reason, of course, is that we wanted to introduce both models to our readers so that they not only have two views, but can also evaluate the model's capabilities with finger guards and without finger guards. Both pistols are chambered in 9mm.
There is some misconception about the capability of this compact pistol, so let me clear it up. The Ruger Compact comes with a built-in magazine that holds 12 rounds, while the second magazine holds 17 rounds with an extension collar, so the longer magazine looks like the length of the grip has been extended.

As mentioned, the thumb safety is placed in the same position as the 1911, but requires a little more access to engage. Finger safety is as inconsistent as magazine length. The finger safety has a very short reach so it's very easy to use depending on your hand size. Leaving the fingers of the shooting hand on top of the safety catch is impractical due to the reach and size of the grip. Another accessory is the backstrap option. The compact comes with small, medium and large inserts. Using a smaller insert allows the use of a thumb safety like you would use a thumb safety on a 1911.

So what do I like about the contract? First let me say that I like finger protection. I know many will disagree and that must be the case, well we all have our preferences. Even if you buy a finger safety model, it doesn't mean you have to use it, and it doesn't change the price. Unlike the Glock, Roger at least offered the consumer the choice of whether or not to have a manual lock. Both models have a rail for attaching a compact or laser light to the gun. Although the trigger looks better than a standard Glock, it still has an unexpected break when the striker is released. Not bad, just takes some getting used to. The trigger shape I definitely like. It is not curved like most polymer pistols. The curve is minimal, which provides better feedback.
After taking the pistol apart and oiling it, I fired it several times for a total of 500 rounds of Armscover ammo, as well as some new Creedmore JHP rounds (more on this new ammo later). I didn't have any crashes during the test. It fired all types of ammo without any problems I had. I prefer a fairly straight backstrap which you can only get with a compact if you use a small grip insert. Using the medium insert it creates is a little too much for my preference, but I'm sure many will find it works well for them. I like your idea of including an oversized pistol with a large capacity flash magazine with a second magazine.
While not a combat pistol, it is accurate in combat and will do well at social distance work. Between its excellent reliability and good accuracy, this compact Roger will do the job without a doubt. It must instill confidence in its owner. As with any weapons practice, practice and more practice!
MSRP is $579, which means a street price of $500 to $525 and up. It ranks firmly in the same price range as the Glock and other striker-fired polymer pistols.

The Ruger Security-9 Compact features the same "Secure-Action" hammer firing system that uses Ruger's full-size Security-9 pistol and its successful LCP II. The trigger is crisp, short and smooth and the weapon uses an internal, shrouded hammer instead of being carried by the striker, which helps to slide the rack more easily. This pistol has the proven features of the Security Six revolver, which stands for basic performance, excellent reliability, value and good ergonomics. This is not a revolutionary semi-automatic pistol with a highly advanced design, but rather a solid performing, moderately low cost, and comfortable pistol that meets basic concealed carry needs.

This rifle is not striker-fired, but has a "single-action" trigger with a pre-cocked, hammer-fired double-action system. This short, smooth trigger pre-cocked reminds me of my single-action rifle, and I love it. Many would think it's a single action trigger because it fires smoothly when the end of the trigger pressure is done which causes the hammer to cut. For safety, the Ruger Security-9 has trigger safety, thumb safety, and thumb safety that prevent the pistol from firing without pressing the trigger. It has a Browning style swing barrel lock. This solidly built pistol has features normally found in more expensive pistols and doesn't feel "cheap". The hammer, like the striker in a fired striker, is partially recoiled by the bolt's backward movement. Pulling the trigger completes the hammer cocking cycle to fire the pistol. This results in a single-action type trigger feel with a short, crisp reset point while being a double-action pistol.
Below, I provide full-size and compact Security-9 dimensions and comparative specs to some other branded models with similar barrel lengths between 3.39" and 3.50". The new compact Security-9 ships with two built-in 10-round steel magazines, but can use the 15-round magazines that come with full-size pistols. Also includes a finger grip extension floor plate for added control. Expanded 15-round magazines are available for purchase for the compact. Each of these pistols below has its own perks for personal preference.
Both the slide and barrel are made from hardened steel, meaning the steel is hardened throughout the manufacturing process, rather than hardening the outer surface and keeping the inner surface relatively smooth. In the hardening process, high levels of carbon are added to the alloy. When component parts are heat treated and through hardening, all parts are hardened and strengthened from the surface to the core. The aim is to prolong the useful life of treated parts. Hardened chrome-moly steel slide is matte blue. Both the full-size and compact chassis are constructed of hard-coated anodized aluminum and include full-length rails. The serialized chassis for both weapons remains a slim profile, yet the durable frame is made from fiberglass-laced nylon. Versatile polymer grip is highly textured, thin, strong and highly impact resistant. For me it provides comfort and relaxation
